Maple and Walnut buns

My grandparents recently got me the companion book to "The Great British Bakeoff" (which I, ironically enough given my hobbies and nationality, don't watch) and I decided to try this recipe out, since I wanted to use up some walnuts I got for the carrot cake.

The only change I made was using maple flavoured syrup (having no actual maple syrup to hand, sadly).

I also made the mistake of using a baking tray with no sides, so the buns expanded past the edges and most of them ended up half with topping and half without (since they were sat in it as it caramelised). Still, they tasted OK and I always find breads fun (I love the smell of yeast ).
