Chocolate Twig RecipeIngredients

Beat the butter and caster sugar together until creamy.Stir the flour, cocoa powder and salt together, then sift over the butter and sugar mixture.Use your fingers to rub the flour mixture and butter mixture together. The result should have the consistency of sand.Use a broad knife to stir in the milk, 2 tablespoons at a time. When all of it has absorbed, the mixture should come away from the sides.Turn out the dough onto a floured surface and knead it until it becomes slightly springy.Shape the dough into a rough square and cut this into three rectangles. Wrap them up in clingfilm and chill for 30 minutes.Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F or gas mark 4).
